Kolkata, formerly known as Calcutta, is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal and one of India’s largest metropolitan cities. Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, approximately 80 kilometres (50 miles) west of the Bangladesh border, Kolkata serves as the principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre of eastern India. With a metropolitan population of over 15 million, it is renowned for its rich colonial heritage, intellectual traditions, literature, art, and vibrant festivals. The city is home to numerous iconic landmarks, including the Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Indian Museum, and Eden Gardens. Often referred to as the “City of Joy”, Kolkata offers visitors a fascinating blend of British colonial architecture, traditional Bengali culture, bustling markets, renowned cuisine, and warm hospitality, making it one of India’s most captivating destinations.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, officially the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Union Territory, are an archipelago of 572 islands, islets, and rocky outcrops situated in the Bay of Bengal, between the Indian mainland and Myanmar. Only around 38 islands are permanently inhabited, while the remainder are covered by dense tropical forests and protected marine ecosystems. The islands are renowned for their crystal-clear turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, colourful coral reefs, diverse marine life, and lush rainforests. Port Blair, the capital and largest town, serves as the gateway to the islands and is famous for the historic Cellular Jail, a national memorial commemorating India’s freedom struggle. Popular islands such as Havelock Island (officially Swaraj Dweep) and Neil Island (officially Shaheed Dweep) attract visitors from around the world with internationally acclaimed beaches including Radhanagar Beach, vibrant coral gardens, water sports, snorkelling, scuba diving, and breathtaking natural scenery. Combining rich history with spectacular tropical landscapes, the Andaman Islands are regarded as one of India’s premier island holiday destinations.
